1. Topic Identification and Analysis
The first step is to choose a suitable topic. These topics are based on market observations and popular interests of children, such as dinosaurs, magicians or horses. Feedback from bookstores and surveys of children also play a role. Important criteria are that the topic is fits into the Globine concept and offers room for humorous stories and exciting adventures.
2. Selection and Planning
The publisher and illustrator select the topic together and define the narrative structure. The story should not only be exciting, but also convey messages such as the value of friendship and helpfulness. The framework of the story is determined: Where does the adventure take place, and what little detective story is built into it?
3. Script and Sketch Manuscript
After the structure has been determined, the illustrator creates a manuscript in text form, which the publisher reviews. Then a sketch manuscript is developed, which roughly outlines the story and contains the first dummy texts. The publisher also provides feedback here before the final artwork begins.
4. Finishing Touches and Coloring
Once the draft manuscript has been approved, the illustrator converts the sketches into final artwork and the publisher edits the text. As soon as the text is finalized, it is sent to the editor. At the same time, the illustrator colors the final artwork.
5. Finalization and Printing
Once all corrections have been integrated and both the publisher and the illustrator are satisfied, the final manuscript gets sent to the printers. About four to five weeks after printing, the new Globine book is delivered and ready for its young readers.
